The Northwest Missouri State Bearcat football team begins the second week of their fall camp this week.

Head coach Rich Wright said it has been a good camp so far.

"I like how we're running the football to this point. Defensively, we have some injuries so we're trying to figure out our depth to some degree. Overall I like our progress; I like the chemistry of this team."

Wright said transfer running back Justin Rankin from Kent State and freshman wide receiver Eli Dowis from Maryville are among the players who have impressed the coaching staff during camp.

"We had talked that Justin was going to be a big part of what were doing, and he's looked really good in camp. We've actually had Eli Dowis down with the varsity. Don't know what we're going to do with him yet, or where he's going to fit in the mix, or if he's going to fit in the mix, but he's been a guy that I've been pleasantly surprised with. He's versatile and can do a lot of things with the football, so that's been fun."

The Bearcats open the season Thursday, September 5 when they travel to St. Joseph to face Missouri Western.
